APRIL 9 FAMILY SYNERGY 40TH ANNIVERSARY (AND BEYOND?) PLANNING MEETING
COME SUPPORT LA'S OLDEST POLY ORGANIZATION
Family Synergy was founded in 1971 by Hy Levy and
Pat LaFollette. Its founders were inspired by the works of Robert Rimmer - Harad
Experiment, Proposition 31 and many others. Live the Dream began as special
interest group of Family Synergy devoted to a more Science Fiction oriented
slant on alternative lifestyles. LTD became a separate group in 1987, then began
doing more joint activities again in 2005. We remain closely connected in
philosophy and activities. If you would like to attend this planning meeting,

BeltAnE is a celebration of spring. It is also a way of connecting with the Earth Mother very directly--the idea being that through the sexual connection of those present flows their fertility to the earth herself encouraging growing things for good crops and to the women of the tribe as well. The priest and priestess are believed to become or at least represent the God and Goddess in their love making. The Great Rite was part of this celebration in ancient times and from it many children were born. Since their fathering was often questionable, they were considered children of the Gods. While Jewish and Christian traditions are considerably different, they agree in the belief that we are all sons and daughters of God and that the divine is within each of us

Saturday June 18: Free Yourself from the Slavery of Jealousy! Discussion, exercises, and guided meditation for vanquishing YOUR green-eyed monster
Atlas Shrugged explores a dystopian United States where leading innovators, ranging from industrialists to artists, refuse to be exploited by society. The protagonist, Dagny Taggart, sees society collapse around her as the government increasingly asserts control over all industry (including Taggart Transcontinental, the once mighty transcontinental railroad for which she serves as the operating executive), while society's most productive citizens, led by the mysterious John Galt, progressively disappear. Galt describes the strike as "stopping the motor of the world" by withdrawing the "minds" that drive society's growth and productivity. In their efforts, these "men of the mind" hope to demonstrate that a world in which the individual is not free to create is doomed, that civilization cannot exist where men are slaves to society and government, and that the destruction of the profit motive leads to the collapse of society.
There is also quite a bit of relationship oriented material to this story as Dagny grows into womanhood. Her relationships with the men she considers to be dynamic enough personalities to deserve her loyalty and love are a fascinating parallel to what she and Rand's readers discover about the meaning of power, politics, profit and integrity. The bottom line is that we are responsible for the state of our own lives. We create our own troubles as well as our successes and our joys. Only we ourselves have the power to create the lives we want to live. Only by accepting responsibility can we taste of FREEDOM - in bed, government or commerce.
Note: Ayn Rand herself was poly, though her characters are presented as monogamous. If she were writing today, perhaps that would have been different...

Shama writes:
I have been a teacher of the Tantric art of conscious loving for over a decade, and I am still learning more to share with you!
I think we can always improve on a
good thing and Tantra has shown me that our capacity for pleasure is unlimited!
I can't think of any better frontier to
explore!
What
is Tantra
Primarily, Tantra is a spiritual
path of the heart and consciousness. A spiritual path is one where the focus of
one's attention is upon exploring the world through one's relationship to self
and others (expanding awareness).

The Tantric Relationship
A Tantric relationship is one in
which both partners live their lives according to Tantric philosophy: choosing
to see, love, and honor each other as the embodiment of Divine expression -
invoking the highest spiritual enlightenment in one another, consciously
creating their lives and union based on unconditional love, allowing, and
receiving. Their choices are based on the highest expressions of loving,
pleasure, and freedom, while supporting each other's spiritual journeys, growth
and joy as much as they can!
Are YOU Ready for Group Living?
Space Available at a lovely group house in West San Fernando Valley
Many people together can live cheaper and a whole lot nicer than that same number could live separately. Shared appliances, kitchen, large living room, laundry facilities, etc is part of the reason. Over the years at our Live the Dream gatherings we've done an exercise in which we have everyone write down what they could afford to pay down for a home, what they could pay monthly, where they want to live, what kind of people they want to live with, etc. Invariably, we discover that living together costs less and is quite affordable for most people.
WHO LIVES HERE?
I am Terry Brussel: fifty-seven years old, passionate about LIFE, lady hypnotherapist, Judeo Pagan. I've been involved in multiply committed relationships since my late teens. I founded Live the Dream in 1987 as an education and support group for that life style. It was a spin off of Family Synergy which had promoted poly living since 1971 - long before the word was coined. I've been doing hypnotherapy since 1969 (when I was sixteen). As director of Success Center, I now help coaches and hypnotists to build successful practices nationwide, in Canada and the UK.
Our own group house came together from several different sources. Carl moved in with my second husband and me January 15, 1995 when we still lived in an 1100 square foot house in Mission Hills. The home we live in today is a 3300 square foot one in Canoga Park bought in 2003. We had met Carl a few months before at a Whole Life Expo 1994 where he and my son politely wrestled over who would carry my stuff to a hypnosis demonstration I was giving. We later discovered many connections and mutual friendships. As a Family Synergy member, he had been in a triad with a long time girl friend of my first husband and a man who had been in my friendship circle for many years. In 1994, Carl had been after our friend Dan to introduce him to me for quite while due to his interest in healing and hypnotherapy, but Dan had not gotten around to it. Carl took the matter in his own hands by coming to that Expo knowing I was speaking there. Carl is to this day invaluable to me in helping other hypnotherapists perfect their skills through the services and materials provided by Success Center. Carl decided he was Home when he first had dinner at our house shortly after the Expo he met me at and discovered we celebrated Shabbat dinner with traditional blessings in Hebrew, and then ended up passing around the wine glass with the salutation "Never Thirst". Carl is an avid science fiction reader as is everyone else who lives here. He does the shopping for our household and creates delicious meals seasoned with love. He is 74, single and unattached.
Will "Taliesin" Jarvis attended Live the Dream meetings off and on beginning in 1997. Will is a published author who writes novels on alternative lifestyles and is carrying on for Robert Rimmer, a fellow New Englander, since Bob's passing. He is active in lobbying for freedom of speech and other first amendment issues, issues also dear to my own heart. He had become an intimate friend for several months before he moved in with us. When we did the exercise of writing down what you could put toward rent on a place, where you were willing to live and what kind of people you wanted to live with, etc. at a Live the Dream meeting in June of 2002, I looked at what he wrote and asked if he was seriously available for living in a group house. He was. Will moved in when we bought our current home in 2003. His interpersonal skills help keep us all together and on an even keel. He's a valued housemate still with us as I write this in March of 2011. Will is also Live the Dream's and Success Center's web master. Note to potential female housemates: Will, is 53, single, and cute.
Our newest housemate, Greg, is also my life partner. He is 62, we met through OK Cupid in July of 2008 by phone, talked several times without meeting and he finally showed up at a Live the Dream All Hallow's Eve party 10-30-09. We Shared Water shortly after that. An avid Science Fiction reader for most of his life, Greg gave a talk on Stranger in a Strange Land when I included him on the Live the Dream panel at his first science fiction convention-- Los Con November of 2009. He moved in with us 12-20-09 as my primary partner. A year after we met, we decided to be handfasted. The ceremony was February 5, 2011 in the presence of friends and loved ones including many of our Water Brothers. Greg is a yogi and teacher of yoga (now doing this for some of my hypnosis clients), an accomplished chef (who fortunately gets along well with Carl in the kitchen). Greg fixes our plumbing and keeps our Internet connections working. He is a great marketer at Success Center's trade shows and helps put together the scripts, CDs, books etc we provide for clients and professionals nationally and internationally.
Yes, we do have some cottage industry going on here if you do anything involving human enrichment. We can probably give you clients for it. If you can sell, I'll put you to work for sure and pay you commissions. However, we do want a house mate who can pay his or her rent separately from such opportunities. This is a cooperative household, not a commune. Everyone pays his share.
Rent on the available room (with private bath and plenty of closet space) is $650 (with an office/storage space upstairs available for $150 extra) + utilities. Food and sundries $75 a week - tell grocery shoppers for that week what you want bought or be a grocery shopper. Several meals are shared ones and the rest is fixing your own from what's in the fridge. A maid comes weekly to do the heavy cleaning in our common areas. A gardener takes care of our front and back yards, though house member gardening efforts are certainly encouraged.
Mostly, our group house members have stayed for many years. Recently, it became clear that one of our group could not continue living here because of communication issues starting over an argument regarding his parking space - seems minor, but little things can become big ones when you refuse to haul them out and discuss them. PLEASE BE WILLING TO COMMUNICATE IF YOU WANT TO MOVE IN HERE.
Not everyone can live together and not everyone is able to handle group living. Each relationship, along with its transitions, has learnings within it. We grow and move forward.
Though male housemates will certainly be considered, more feminine energy besides my own around here would be a good thing. Couples are welcome.

What is Heinlein actually telling us about group marriage, group living and open relationships? Much of it is too consistent to be ?just story?, but appears to be an expression of his life philosophy. This is confirmed by the biographical work on Heinlein being done by Bill Patterson which we will also be discussing at this meeting. Saturday June 19 11a - 4p Real World Poly Roots: GODDARD COLLEGE ? THE REAL HARRAD? Join noted author and social-change activist Will ?Taliesin? Jarvis as he shares his memories of Goddard College, the inspiration, in part, for Robert Rimmer's Harrad Experiment. Goddard, the oldest experimental college in the US, took sexual and social education to a whole new level in the swinging 1960s and 70s. With classes ranging from nude massage to creating social change; with co-ed dorms and unisex bathrooms; with gay and lesbian activism, Goddard was at the forefront of the sexual revolution. Will was, and still is, a part of that revolution and continues to promote the 'Make Love, Not War' philosophy in his writing, art and political activities. Will spoke at his first Live the Dream meeting back in 1999. He became a member of our Group Household through an exercise on the advantages of Group Living at another meeting in 2002 and has been living in Penfield House since 2003. You can LIVE your dreams! ===================================================

Valentine Day for Singles, Dyads, Triads and Moresomes
Happy Valentine's Day! Flowers, candy, dancing and
passion--someone special in your arms. Except if there isn't someone special
right now...or if your some special is with his or her primary partner tonight.
Then it can be a real downer.
Single and no love partner at present? Don't let all the
cards, gift items and dreamy looks you see around you bring you down. Let it
instead motivate you to be looking for that certain person or couple who may
already be looking for you. Your life mate is out there- -not just one but many
possible "right" ones. There are books on how to look, audio/video tapes and
seminars. You can start at the library or a book store. Browse. Find one with a
step by step program, not just for finding someone wonderful, but perhaps also
for accessing what changes you may need to make to be ready for that person. How
to Make a Man Fall in Love by Tracey Cabot is good. The converse book for men
appears to be out of print, though there are likely others out there. The
couples version is Staying In Love for a Life Time by the same author. For more
in depth info on NLP, Unlimited Power by Tony Robbins is available in tape or
book form. It's better to use recorded material or live training as the way you
say things is at least as important as what you say. Hypnosis can assist you in
actually integrating NLP into your subconscious mind, your child mind, helping
you to use it with the kind of unconscious mastery demonstrated by such
practitioners as Tony Robbins and Tad James. We offer that at Success
Center--800-GOAL NOW (462-5669)
What's NLP? Neuro Linguistic Programming is a way to
deeply understand how another person thinks and communicates, what is important
to them. It ranges from mirroring words and gestures to get a potential date to
notice you at a party to saying the right things and being the right person for
your chosen life mate to want to marry. It works.
***********************************************************
I had a
client for my matchmaking service who only wanted to meet ladies with long blond
hair. I found a match for him who was everything else he wanted, but her hair
was short and auburn. He reluctantly agreed to meet her. He called me after the
first date to tell me she looked like a horse. Two weeks later, he called to say
she didn't look that bad actually and to tell me she had other characteristics
he loved. The wedding invitation came six weeks later.
The gut feel that caused me to
risk his original aggravation was right, but the lady had a lot to do with
making that work. She made him feel good about himself; let him know how right
for her he was. She learned what special things really pleased him in the way a
woman dressed and acted. She did those things without changing the essence of
who she was, which was right for him in the first place. Some of this was inside
info from me-- the rest she picked up by watching him, listening to him and
asking the right questions. She learned to speak to him using the kinds of words
he best responded to--visual imagery in his case. This particular gal just
seemed to have a knack for it. If you don't and you wonder why your
relationships just don't seem to last or to make either of you as happy as you'd
hoped they would, this technique can be learned. It's not a way to manipulate
another person or to give up being yourself. It's a way to deeply communicate
with a potential special someone, to fully understand that other person, decide
if this is Mr or Miss Right, and be happy together if it is.
***************************************************************
Here are a few hints. Does your date(or this person you'd like to date) use words like "I see." It looks good to me." ? When you ask a question, does (s)he look up before answering? This person is probably a visual. Make a date to see the sunset together.
Words like "I hear you." "Just
listen to me." and looking to the side before speaking tell you you're dealing
with an audio. Make a date to listen to a concert together. "It's got to feel
right." "Let's get in touch." and looking down before speaking tell you this
kinesthetic might enjoy an ethnic place where soft comfortable cushions are
provided to recline on. This is obviously over simplified. There are many tapes
and books available on the subject as well as personal instruction. Feel free to
call me for more info.
If you do all this or even a good part of it, you'll be too busy solving the loneliness problem to wallow in it. Soon you'll have your arms around the delightful solution.
We couples, who are looking for a third or for another
couple, do not have to deal with the loneliness problems of a single person in
this situation. We've got each other to be romantic with. Even so, this may be a
good time for courting that special person you are both interested in. Don't
make the mistake of figuring this day is just for you and your mate. A possible
third in your relationship is going to look ahead and see many such "special"
couple times creating loneliness and feelings of being excluded in the future.
If this person is truly important to you, include him or her in. If she's a
lady, the gentleman should get flowers and special gifts for both (different
ones) and take them to dinner together. Show her that old fashioned romance need
not be lost in this new style relationship. If the possible third is a male, the
male member of the couple should include him in planning and implementing a
romantic evening for your lady love. He may not offer, feeling awkward about
intruding. You'll most likely have to ask him to join you and even persuade him
that he is not a third wheel. NLP can be useful for this sort of thing, too. It
will be worth the trouble if your Dream is a triad or even a triad as a starting
point for a larger group marriage. This is true even if the relationship is
going to stay a non residential one. Being inclusive rather than exclusive will
definitely make your single lovers feel cared for and cherished at a time which
could be more difficult for them than for you.
